The answer to measuring social impact for UK businesses could be found in a new web-based application

At the forefront of the growing trend for businesses wanting to measure their social impact is a Warwickshire-based business.

Publicly demonstrating the positive impact a business makes on society, through volunteering, fundraising and donations is becoming increasingly crucial for a number of reasons. These include – employee engagement, external stakeholder and investor relations and positive brand resonance. With the importance to be more ESG or CSR savvy ever more present.

Make Good Grow spent 2022 refining a new kind of measurement tool, called the Social Impact Dashboard (or SID for short.) Launching the software at the back end of last year, they have seen fantastic early adoption. With businesses small and large, across a multitude of sectors signing up and beginning their journey to better social impact reporting.

Rob Langley-Swain is the Managing Director of this small start-up and explains more about their route to market:

“The Social Impact Dashboard came about in response to conversations we’d had with numerous businesses. They were telling us about the great volunteering, fundraising and donations they were making. But 9 out of 10 weren’t recording this anywhere, except the odd ad-hoc blog or social media post.

“We quickly identified the gap in the market – to provide a cost-effective and simple platform, which pulled together all social impact activities into one place. SID was 9 months in development and has gathered a lot of interest since launching.”

The Social Impact Dashboard developed by Make Good Grow puts storytelling at the heart of its reporting. While data and metrics of the impact being made are important, the company realised that the people and stories were critical to maximising engagement, rather than just dry statistics.

Businesses from a wide variety of sectors, including construction, hospitality, legal services and PR are among those early adopters.

Andlyn White is Responsible Business Manager for Gateley, a major firm with more than 1500 employees and multiple office locations around the UK. They are on a journey to build a more responsible business and an engaged workforce. They saw Make Good Grow’s dashboard as the perfect tool to aid them on their way.

“SID visually highlights key CSR stats, photos of our people, activities completed and the Good Causes our team have supported. As a Responsible Business, tracking our social impact is vital, as it gives us not only an indication of what we are doing but areas we can focus on more.”

“Make Good Grow has been so helpful in supporting us on our social impact journey and the Social Impact Dashboard is a pivotal part of all that.”

The rise of the B-Corp movement, the UN’s sustainable development goals and the spotlight on socially responsible procurement policies show that now, more than ever, businesses should be telling the story of how they are doing good in their communities.

Make Good Grow is committed to being a conduit to a more socially impactful future for businesses, as well as connecting good causes to invaluable FREE support!
