CEO and Founder of Quick Mobile Fix, Ken Emechebe, considers the impact of lockdown on the mobile phone industry
We all know just how difficult these past few months have been, and the mobile phone industry has been no different. With a range of rather challenging environments, it’s also no surprise that the demand for mobile phones has skyrocketed dramatically with friends and family desperately wanting to stay in contact with each other.
Lockdown stats and figures
Since lockdown started, we here at Quick Mobile Fix have been doing our best to ensure our customers stay connected. Interestingly, out of the refurbished phones we’ve sold to customers over the past three months, 80% of them were refurbished Apple iPhones.
This does in fact line up with the demand as many families and friends are opting to use Facetime & iMessage considerably more than normal in order to stay in touch.
However, what is a surprise is the type of device most customers are opting to choose as their refurbished phones of choice. Since the beginning of 2020, customer trends for refurbished devices continue to change and have even more so since lockdown began.
Back in late 2019, our most popular refurbished iPhone was the widely acclaimed iPhone 7 which was the most purchased device from our online store. Recent data shows that this particular device is still going strong being the lead refurbished device we sell.
However, the iPhone X interestingly is now only 25% behind the iPhone 7 in terms of customer purchases which is an increase over the 2nd half of 2019.
This is also no surprise with devices such as the iPhone XR costing £599 straight from Apple (plus other add ons), when on our own refurbished phone store, you could pick up the same device in ‘Pristine’ condition for just £529.99. And if looks don’t bother you too much, you could get it at an even better price of just £417.99. That’s over £170 cheaper than a brand-new device from Apple.
Providing a service during Covid-19
CEO and Founder, Ken Emechebe said: “With current COVID regulations in place, needless to say, daily operations have certainly been impacted. But despite all of this, and running on minimal staff levels – we are continuing to provide the best service we can during the pandemic as we know just how important it is for our customers to stay connected to those who matter most.
“During this time of crisis, the team has achieved fantastic milestones in still dispatching devices at some of the highest rates in our history regardless of the pandemic. We’re incredibly proud of the speed in which the team are dispatching orders even while at a quarter of the strength they would be normally. This shows extreme promise for the future and has shown the steps we’ve taken in 2020 to refine our service has allowed us to continue to support those in need.”
What have we been doing to combat Covid-19 at Quick Mobile Fix?
The health and safety of our staff and our customers is always paramount and as the challenges of Covid-19 surface, we have ensured that steps are in place to continue providing a safe working environment for all our employees.
• Encouraging staff to self-isolate for at least 14 days if symptoms show
• The opportunity to work from home is available (which is certainly encouraged)
• Regular reminders to keep hands clean and wash with antibacterial, alcohol-based soap
In conjunction to this, we already have strict regulations in place to ensure all of our devices are cleaned and tested – however, we have increased emphasis on this process to ensure all our devices are in tip-top condition.
On this note, we also have some suggestive guidelines on how to protect your device.
Clean your phone, two times a day
This one seems like a no brainer, but did you know that we on average, touch our phone over 2,700 times a day? Thanks to research platform dscout for finding that one out. Yes, it’s true… we do actually touch our phone that much a day so it’s incredibly important you clean your phone at least two times a day.
Have a case for your phone
This may seem like a rather obvious suggestion, but you’d be surprised how many people wouldn’t even consider this as a contributing factor – but the reality is that having your phone in a case, minimises the area in which bacteria can land and spread.
Maintaining the cleanliness of your phone
Once you’ve cleaned your iPhone, the next step is, of course, to keep it as clean as you can going forward. How might you ask? It’s simple really.
Avoid touching your phone unnecessarily and continue washing your hands as much as you can. The cleaner the surfaces that are touching your device, the cleaner it’ll be. It really is that simple. You could even carry some alcohol wipes on you if you’re travelling in order to clean your device on the go.
For now, stay safe and we hope to see you again soon.
