CM.com, a Dutch tech-company specialised in conversational commerce, is selected to offer Google’s new solution Verified SMS to businesses that communicate with their customers via SMS. With this verification method businesses can eliminate or reduce number spoofing and abuse of their company brand.
SMS messages help businesses share useful information with consumers, things like one-time passwords, account alerts or appointment confirmations. Yet sometimes it can be difficult to trust the identity of these messages, which are often sent from a random number. Some messages may even come from bad actors pretending to be from businesses you trust and ask for private information or link to dangerous websites—this is called phishing.
Reduce fraud
Verified SMS adds an extra layer of security to the SMS contact between organisations and customers. Companies that choose to deploy the solution will be automatically verified by Google when they contact customers via SMS, after which their logo, a short description of the organisation and a verification confirmation appears on the screen of the recipient. When a message is verified — which is done without sending your messages to Google — you’ll see the business name and logo as well as a verification badge in the message thread. When organisations cannot be verified, the recipient receives an extra warning, for example when clicking on web links. The solution aims to drastically reduce fraud risks, such as spoofing and smishing. Banks, payment companies, insurance companies and telecom companies in particular will benefit from the increased security to protect their brand.
